Eskaton Corporation's 2001 President's Award
Given to Mark A. Hyjek

I have been associated with Eskaton Corporation for well over ten years and was involved with the Sacramento Visiting Nurses Association for many years prior to the merger of VNA with Eskaton. Until 2000, my involvement had been as a volunteer, both through the monthly "Ask a Lawyer"sessions I conduct and through participation as a committee volunteer member. In 2000, I was honored to join the Eskaton Corporation Board of Directors.

Eskaton is a nonprofit corporation serving seniors. Its mission statement declares: "Eskaton's primary mission is to enhance the quality of life of seniors through innovative health, housing and social services. Our prime values are client satisfaction, employee satisfaction, quality and market leadership. For further information on Eskaton, refer to its website www.eskaton.com.

Having attended several of Eskaton's annual meetings, held each May, I had become familiar with the tradition of withholding information on the winner(s) of the Eskaton President's Awards. Corporate President John Breaux chooses a recipient or recipients each year for the President's Awards and the names are not announced in advance and copies of the annual report are withheld until the moment to announce the winners.

Imagine my surprise at the 2001 annual meeting to learn I would receive one of the two President's Awards for this year! I am particularly honored to receive this recognition and include the message from the annual report:

"Mark Hyjek has been an Eskaton member since 1988 and on the Eskaton Board of Directors since May 2000. During that time, he has served on Eskaton committees, especially the Quality Management Committee, supported Eskaton fundraisers and provided wise counsel whenever asked.

"Perhaps the most notable activity that makes Mark deserving of this recognition is his special commitment to seniors and their families. Under the banner of the Eskaton Senior Connection's free "Ask the Attorney" service, Mark has donated many hours of volunteer consultation in the field of elder law. He has contributed a day per month over the past ten years to the benefit of those in need of legal advice and assistance."

"Thank you, Mark, for all you do!"

It has been my pleasure, and I look forward to many more years of service to Eskaton and the community it serves.
